Leading Change, Growing Impact
Our annual SuperGrans conference is more than a gathering — it is an opportunity to pause, reflect, learn from one another and celebrate the difference we are making in communities across Aotearoa.
This year’s theme, Courageous Futures - Leading Change, Growing Impact, reminded us of the power of coming together. We shared ideas, practical knowledge, challenges, successes and new ways of thinking about how we can create meaningful, lasting change for the people and whānau we support.
A key message was simple: Kia Kaha — keep keeping on. We were reminded to acknowledge how far we have come, own the work we do, and continue to champion the value of practical life skills, connection and community support.
We explored the importance of measuring impact, not simply outputs. It is not just about how many workshops we deliver, but what happens because we deliver them — a family becoming more confident, someone learning a skill that helps them save money, a person finding connection, gaining employment, or discovering they have the ability to do more than they thought possible.
We were encouraged to ask questions, collaborate, share our collective knowledge and draw on the abundance that already exists within our communities. We also reflected on the importance of understanding our volunteers’ “why”, building strong referral relationships, recruiting new people to support our initiatives and planning for succession so that the work we do creates a lasting legacy.
The conference left us feeling inspired, validated and connected — we found our tribe! We celebrated the sense of family that makes SuperGrans special, while also recognising that there is always more to learn and better ways to do things.
As Maya Angelou so beautifully reminds us: “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”
That is at the heart of SuperGrans SuperSkills Ōtautahi.
We believe everyone has potential. Sometimes people simply need someone to share knowledge, provide encouragement, open a door or stand alongside them while they have a go.
We don't just teach skills — we build confidence, connection, capability and hope.
Our conference gave us new ideas, renewed energy and a shared commitment to turn learning into action. Now it is time to take those ideas home, create our plans, strengthen our partnerships and continue doing what SuperGrans does best:
Practical skills. Real connections. Stronger people. Stronger whānau. Stronger communities. Shared outcomes. Local solutions. One community at a time.
